Defense Ministry Launches Third OPV Construction in Batam

KBRN, Batam: Expert Staff of the Minister of Defense for Social Affairs, Major General TNI Rionardo, led the Keel Laying Ceremony of the third Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) at the PT Noahtu Shipyard in Batam on Wednesday (11/19/2025). The keel laying marks a significant milestone in the construction of the OPV, developed through cooperation between the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and PT Noahtu Shipyard.

In his remarks, Major General Rionardo stated that the OPV is designed to strengthen sovereignty and ensure national order in Indonesian waters. According to him, the OPV will also provide a deterrent effect amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.

“The OPV currently under construction will become a strategic component in the Indonesian Navy’s force posture. This vessel is designed to strengthen sovereignty and maintain national order at sea, while delivering an effective deterrent effect amid constantly changing geopolitical conditions,” Rionardo stated.

In addition, he further conveyed that the construction of the OPV at PT Noahtu Shipyard demonstrates the Ministry of Defense’s commitment to nurturing and strengthening the domestic defense industry so that Indonesia’s shipbuilding sector can stand strong and compete internationally.

The Expert Staff explained that the vessel will be equipped with a combat management system integrated with various sensors, weapons, and communication systems to optimize its capability in neutralizing threats. The construction of this warship is also expected to enhance independence and confidence in Indonesia’s shipbuilding industry, enabling it to compete on the international stage in the future.
