KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia, alongside a coalition of allied nations, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has strongly condemned a recent Israeli parliamentary bill asserting sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and supporting illegal settlements.
In a joint statement published by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, October 24, 2025, the group denounced the Israeli legislation as a blatant violation of international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, antaranews.com reported.
The resolution, adopted on December 23, 2016, explicitly opposes any attempts to alter the demographic composition, character, or status of Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem. It was passed with 14 votes in favor and one abstention (by the United States), marking a significant stance by the international community.
The group includes Jordan, Pakistan, Türkiye, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Gambia, Palestine, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Egypt, Nigeria, the Arab League, and the OIC.
The statement also referenced the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) advisory opinion, which reaffirmed that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land is illegal under international law. It further declared that the construction and annexation of settlements in the West Bank are unlawful.
The countries emphasized that Israel holds no legitimate sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories and welcomed the ICJ’s October 22 opinion outlining Israel’s obligations in these areas.
The court underscored Israel’s duty to ensure Palestinian civilians, including those in Gaza, have access to essential needs and humanitarian aid facilitated by the United Nations and the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
The ICJ also reiterated the prohibition of using starvation as a method of warfare, as well as forced displacement, deportation, and actions that create inhumane living conditions for civilians. It reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state, declaring Israel’s claim over East Jerusalem “null and void.”
The joint statement also addressed concerns over efforts to halt UNRWA operations within Israeli-controlled areas, warning that such measures further undermine humanitarian access.
The signatories urged the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities in halting Israel’s unilateral and unlawful actions, which they warned could further escalate tensions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
They concluded by reaffirming their support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish a sovereign and independent state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, describing this as the only viable path toward a just and lasting peace in the region. ***
