RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia condemned reported Israeli plans to expand military control over up to 70 percent of the Gaza Strip, calling the proposal a violation of international law and urging the international community to prevent further escalation in the Palestinian territory.

Speaking in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono said Indonesia firmly rejects and condemns the proposal, which would reportedly extend Israeli control to 70 percent of Gaza’s territory.

“We continue to reject and strongly condemn this plan,” Minister Sugiono said after a bilateral meeting with Madagascar’s Foreign Minister Alice N’Diaye at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He described the proposal as illegal and a violation of international law, urging all parties to take immediate steps to prevent any further expansion of Israeli control in Gaza.

Minister Sugiono also reiterated Indonesia’s long‑standing support for a peaceful resolution based on a two‑state solution. “For Indonesia, the bottom line remains that Palestine must be independent within the framework of a two‑state solution,” he said.

The minister confirmed that the Palestinian issue, particularly concerns over the possible annexation of Gaza, was among the topics discussed by President Prabowo Subianto and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during a meeting in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday.

According to Minister Sugiono, Indonesia and Turkey agreed to work together to bring global attention back to the Palestinian cause, arguing that peace efforts had stalled following recent hostilities involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

“We must return our focus to that issue, and for that we must find ways to resolve this conflict,” he said.

Last Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel intended to expand its military control in Gaza to 70 percent of the enclave’s territory.

According to Anadolu, Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces currently control around 60 percent of Gaza.

Israeli forces had previously announced control of 53 percent of Gaza after repositioning to the so‑called “Yellow Line” during the first phase of a peace proposal put forward by US President Donald Trump.

Responding to Netanyahu’s remarks, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Israeli control over 70 percent of Gaza was not part of the Trump peace plan. “We have a plan. But that plan does not include that,” Rubio told the US Congress on Tuesday, June 2. ***
