KBRN, Jakarta: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arrmanatha C. Nasir, attended the official inauguration of the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in South Jakarta on April 30. Representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola at the inauguration was the Secretary of State for Administration, Finance, and Cultural Heritage, Osvaldo Dos Santos Varela, who came directly from Angola. The inauguration coincided with the commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Asian-African Conference.
The opening of Angola’s Embassy in Jakarta marks a strategic step by the Angolan Government to further strengthen bilateral relations with Indonesia. The Angolan Embassy in Jakarta, which is also accredited to Brunei Darussalam, replaces its previous diplomatic representation based in Singapore.
This embassy inauguration comes more than a year after the Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Indonesia, Floréncio Mariano da Conceiҫão e Almeida, presented his letter of credence to the President of the Republic of Indonesia in December 2023.
Prior to the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Minister Arrmanatha held a bilateral meeting with Secretary of State Varela. The two officials discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors, as well as regional and multilateral issues of mutual concern. Indonesia also conveyed its support for Angola’s presidency of the African Union in 2025.
“I believe the presence of the Angolan Embassy in Jakarta will create many opportunities to enhance not only bilateral cooperation but also South-South partnerships in the spirit of Asia-Africa solidarity,” stated Deputy Minister Arrmanatha.
Angola is currently the second-largest source of crude oil for Indonesia from Sub-Saharan Africa, with Indonesia importing approximately 12 million barrels of oil per year from Angola. Both countries are actively working to further increase trade in the oil and gas sector.
In addition to oil and gas, Indonesia and Angola are also striving to diversify their economic cooperation, including in the fields of agro-industry and fisheries.
Indonesia and Angola have maintained diplomatic relations since 2001. Angola has been accredited to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Windhoek, Namibia, since 2004.
