RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government continues to strengthen efforts to improve national health quality as part of the eight priority agendas of President Prabowo Subianto's Astacita. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that improving the healthcare system is one of the government's main focuses to ensure wider and higher-quality access to services for the public.

Purbaya conveyed this during a meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Monday, 9 February 2026. According to him, the improvement of national health quality must be accompanied by financial safeguards to ease public burdens with costs when accessing medical services.

He emphasized that the effectiveness of the National Health Insurance Program (JKN) is key to realizing an inclusive and sustainable health system. The program is considered to play an important role in expanding service coverage while also improving the quality of health services.

Purbaya said the government continues to design fiscal policies that support the eight priority agendas of Astacita, including in the health sector. Bolstering the National Health Insurance Program (JKN) is aimed at improving service access, service quality, and financial protection for the community.

"The design of the 2026 State Budget remains expansionary yet sustainable to support eight priority agendas, including realizing quality health through the improvement of the National Health Insurance Program (JKN) effectiveness," said Purbaya in the meeting.

As a form of commitment, the government allocated a health budget of Rp247.3 trillion in 2026. This budget increased by 13.2 percent compared to the previous year. "If we look at the total cost, it reaches Rp247.3 trillion. This shows that the government is genuinely committed to improving public health," said Purbaya.

In addition to the health budget, around Rp897.6 trillion from the total State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) 2026 expenditure is expected to directly benefit the public in various forms of benefits. The funds are distributed through the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, energy subsidies and compensation, People's Business Credit (KUR), as well as various social assistance programs, including the Contribution Assistance Recipients (PBI) JKN for 96.8 million participants.

In addition to the budget increase, the government is also preparing a policy to waive arrears and fines for JKN contributions for Non-Wage Earners and Non-Workers class 3 participants. This policy is expected to lighten the burden on participants, increase active membership, and maintain the sustainability of the national health insurance system.
