RRI.CO.ID, West Kalimantan - The government is accelerating the construction of 66 Type C regional hospitals to provide local communities with referral healthcare services. One project nearing completion is the Tuan Besar Syarif Idrus Regional Hospital in the Kumbu Raya Regency of West Kalimantan.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that the hospital's construction is progressing rapidly. Minister Budi explained that its physical structure is now nearly complete.

"Last year, we broke ground on 22 hospitals. This Kumbu Raya hospital was scheduled to start in March or April, but it's now finished in January, less than a year later," Sadikin told reporters on Friday, February 6, 2026, after inspecting the construction progress of Tuan Besar Syarif Idrus Regional Hospital in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan.

According to Sadikin, the new hospital is projected to open soon and will be inaugurated by the president once all facilities are ready. Budi emphasized that the Type C Regional General Hospital (RSUD) will provide specialist services closer to the city, meaning patients won't need to travel far for care.

"Once it's ready, we'll propose it to the president for inauguration. The important thing is that this hospital will be able to provide comprehensive services, including care for heart conditions, strokes, cancer, kidney disease, and maternal and child health," said Health Minister Budi.

He explained that RSUD Kumbara will be equipped with advanced technology, including a catheterization laboratory for heart and stroke procedures and open neurosurgery capabilities.

"If you have a stroke due to bleeding or blockage, you can be treated here. We have a catheterization laboratory, and we can perform craniotomies or open brain surgeries," said Budi.

Azhar Jaya, the Director General of Advanced Health at the Ministry of Health, said the hospital is designed to handle most catastrophic diseases in the region, including cancer, heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and urological disorders.

"The goal is to treat 80 percent of community illnesses at this hospital without requiring long-distance referrals. The entire building meets Ministry of Public Works standards, is disability-friendly, and can withstand earthquakes up to magnitude 8," Azhar said. (Misni Parjiati/Bambang MBKA)
