RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Health Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating cervical cancer by 2030. This commitment is pursued through strengthened policies and integrated HPV DNA screening services.
In Health Ministry's website on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, Vice Health Minister, Dante Saksono Harbuwono, delivered the statement during a dissemination forum. The event presented results from an HPV DNA cervical cancer screening pilot study.
He emphasized cervical cancer elimination represents a national commitment protecting women and future generations. The vision goes beyond health targets toward safeguarding families and national continuity.
“Cervical cancer remains the second most common cancer among women in Indonesia," Vice Health Minister Dante Saksono stated.
According to him, cervical cancer constitutes a systemic issue requiring comprehensive and sustainable solutions. It should not be addressed solely as a medical problem.
Indonesia has committed globally to cervical cancer elimination since World Health Assembly 2020. This commitment materialized through the National Action Plan for Cervical Cancer Elimination 2023–2030.
The ministry appreciated the East Java HPV DNA screening pilot study implementation. The study was supported by Jhpiego, Roche, and Biofarma partnerships.
The pilot provided insights into service readiness and grassroots screening effectiveness. Findings are expected to inform strategic improvements across healthcare governance and community empowerment.
Moreover, he stressed cross-sector collaboration remains essential for cervical cancer elimination. Inclusive partnerships are necessary to collectively overcome sectoral boundaries and challenges.
