KBRN, Sungailiat: Muslims across Indonesia observe fasting for the month of Ramadan. Maintaining a healthy diet during sahoor (pre-dawn meal) and iftar (breaking the fast) is crucial to ensure the body remains fit throughout the fasting period.
Dr. Egha Zainur Ramadhani, a physician at the Bangka Regency Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Bangka Belitung Islands province, highlighted this during a sahoor dialogue on Pro1 RRI Sungailiat, Saturday, March 8, 2025.
"Consuming a balanced nutritious diet helps maintain energy, prevent dehydration, and avoid fatigue during the day," said dr. Egha, rri.co.id reported.
During sahoor, it is recommended to consume foods high in fiber and protein for prolonged satiety.
Egha provided examples of high-fiber and protein-rich foods, such as sweet potatoes, boiled potatoes, legumes, eggs, fish, tofu and tempeh, and lean chicken.
"When breaking the fast, it is advisable to choose easily digestible foods to restore lost energy gradually," said Egha.
The doctor, who is also an author of several health books, added that to maintain health and fitness during fasting, the food choices for sahoor and iftar should be nutritious and filling.
"Choose foods containing complex carbohydrates, high protein, fiber, healthy fats, and vitamins, and don't forget to consume sufficient water to keep the body hydrated," Egha advised.
He also recommended avoiding excessive caffeine from beverages like coffee or tea, which can lead to dehydration. ***
