RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia reactivated its Forest and Land Fire Coordination Desk to strengthen wildfire preparedness. The measure was announced during a coordination meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, 18 June 2026.

The Indonesian Government discussed national efforts against forest and land fires during the 2026 Special Coordination Meeting on Forest and Land Fire Control. The forum featured the theme “Synergizing for the Nation in Facing El Niño 2026 and 2027”.

The meeting was chaired by Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago. He stressed that forest fire control affects national resilience, economic stability, and diplomatic relations.

Djamari said Indonesia has prepared several preventive measures against potential forest and land fires. One key step is reactivating the 2026 Forest and Land Fire Coordination Desk.

“The government has taken anticipatory measures to address the potential occurrence of forest and land fires, including the reactivation of the 2026 Forest and Land Fire Coordination Desk,” he said.

According to Djamari, the desk is more than a coordination forum. It serves as a national instrument integrating policies, resources, and field operations nationwide.

The desk will oversee coordination, policy synchronization, monitoring, and evaluation activities. It also promotes a collaborative approach involving ministries, agencies, regional governments, businesses, and communities.

Meanwhile, Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni warned about recurring four-year forest fire cycles. He urged land concessionaires to strengthen prevention efforts and monitor hotspots within their operational areas.

Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast a drier and longer dry season. The government expects stronger coordination to support forest protection and FOLU Net Sink 2030 targets.
