RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Forestry, in collaboration with the Government of Norway and the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH), held an event titled "Echoing Nature's Steps" to commemorate the 118th National Awakening Day at the Dr. Soedjarwo Auditorium, Manggala Wanabakti Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Representing the Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, the Head of the Forestry Extension and Human Resource Development Agency, drh. Indra Exploitasia, said that National Awakening Day should be interpreted as the awakening of the younger generation in safeguarding the future of the environment.
"Today, the challenge for the younger generation is no longer to seize independence, but to safeguard the future of the Earth and the environment. Controlling climate change, managing forest fires, and protecting biodiversity require the active involvement of the younger generation as agents of change," Indra conveyed.
He explained that under the direction of President Prabowo Subianto, the forestry sector has become one of the main pillars of the national climate action thru the implementation of Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030. The program emphasizes sustainable forest management, ecosystem rehabilitation, conservation, and the empowerment of communities and youth.
For the past three years, the FOLU Net Sink 2030 program has been implemented in 36 provinces thru various activities such as forest and mangrove rehabilitation, peatland restoration, forest area protection, and strengthening the environment-based economy of communities.
Indra also expressed appreciation to the Government of Norway for its support of the implementation of the FOLU Net Sink 2030 program in Indonesia.
"During the implementation of the FOLU Norway Contribution program in various regions, many concrete actions have emerged, ranging from forest protection, peatland rehabilitation, community capacity building, to the creation of green jobs," he said.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Rut Krüger Giverin, appreciated Indonesia's success in reducing carbon emissions and curbing deforestation rates.
"Norway is very proud to partner closely with Indonesia." Indonesia's achievement in reducing deforestation rates has been recognized and has become a real example for the world," Rut stated.
As part of the event series, the Ministry of Forestry and BPDLH also launched a short film titled "Merawat Esok," which highlights the stories of FOLU program implementers and beneficiary communities in preserving Indonesia's forests, peatlands, and mangroves.
