RRI.CO.ID, Bandar Lampung - Indonesian House of Representatives Commission III lawmaker Sudin has called for tighter forest surveillance in Lampung Province’s conservation areas to curb rampant encroachment.

He highlighted the vulnerable state of Way Kambas National Park and Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, both of which play a strategic role in maintaining ecosystem balance and have drawn international attention.

“Lampung Province has two national parks: Way Kambas and Bukit Barisan Selatan. Their vulnerability to deforestation has drawn President Prabowo’s attention. I ask the Chief of Police to pay closer attention,” Sudin said in Bandar Lampung on Friday, April 17, 2026.

He stressed that Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, located in Tanggamus Regency, requires more intensive monitoring due to its vast area.

Sudin warned that forest encroachment now threatens environmental sustainability. He urged local police to step up surveillance in areas vulnerable to logging.

Illegal land clearing and wildlife poaching remain persistent problems, while unauthorized plantations in buffer zones have worsened damage to protected forests.

Sudin demanded firm, indiscriminate action against those who destroy forests in conservation areas. He also called for stronger cooperation between police, local administrations, and relevant agencies, stressing that limited personnel should not be used as an excuse to allow illegal activities to continue.
