RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sari Yuliati, reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to developing high-integrity carbon markets as part of the global contribution to addressing the climate crisis. She conveyed this during a discussion forum titled "Towards High-Integrity Carbon Markets in Indonesia: Progress and Prospects" in Washington DC, United States, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

The event was attended by representatives from the government, academia, international organizations, as well as carbon certification and standards institutions. In the forum, Sari emphasized that Indonesia holds a strategic position as one of the countries with the largest tropical forest areas in the world, thus having both a responsibility and an opportunity in climate change mitigation efforts.

"Our forests are not only for Indonesia, but also contribute to the world. This is a strategic asset that must be managed sustainably," Sari stated in a written statement on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

She also explained that Indonesia's wealth of natural resources, including forests, peatlands, and mangrove ecosystems, makes Indonesia one of the global carbon storage centers. This potential is considered to be optimizable thru the development of a credible and transparent carbon market.

According to her, the management of measurable carbon absorption potential will open up opportunities for significant green investments while also driving sustainable economic growth. Furthermore, Sari emphasized that the current climate crisis has become a reality directly felt by communities in various regions, necessitating concrete and collaborative steps to address it.

In that context, he encourages the strengthening of nature-based solutions as part of the national strategy to maintain environmental balance while also supporting economic development.

"The development of the carbon market must ensure transparency, credibility, and real benefits, both for society and for global environmental sustainability," she said.

At the end of her presentation, Sari invited all stakeholders, both at the national and international levels, to strengthen collaboration in building a high-integrity carbon market ecosystem. The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) will continue to support policies that promote sustainable natural resource management, while also strengthening Indonesia's position in the global climate change agenda.
