RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The South Jakarta Environment Sub-agency (Sudin LH) reported that daily waste production in the region reached an estimated 1,120 tons during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period. This figure highlights the significant environmental footprint left by holiday festivities between March 18 and March 24, 2026.

To manage the surge, authorities deployed a massive logistical operation across 10 sub-districts to ensure the city remained clean and functional during the long break.

"The estimated daily waste tonnage during the Eid period is 1,120 tons per day," said Head of the South Jakarta Environment Sub-agency, Dedy Setiono, in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The response involved a dedicated team of 1,107 sanitation officers and 190 garbage trucks operating daily to transport waste to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Site (TPST).

"We deployed 1,107 sanitation workers and 190 garbage trucks to TPST Bantargebang every day," Dedy added.

The sub-agency is not merely moving waste but actively sorting it to reduce the burden on landfills. Organic waste is diverted for composting and maggot cultivation, while recyclable materials are sent to local waste banks. Only non-recyclable residue is sent to the final disposal site.

Authorities are urging the public to remain consistent in reducing and sorting waste at the source, in accordance with Governor Regulation Number 77/2020, which focuses on waste management at the community (RW) level.

This local surge contributes to Jakarta's broader challenge; according to 2025 data, the capital produces an average of over 7,900 tons of waste daily.
