RRI.CO.ID, Nairobi - Indonesia, together with Brazil, was invited as an observer to represent Global South perspectives at the Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP) meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, on March 3–5, 2026.

A total of 34 of the 38 FCLP member countries attended the meeting, underscoring the need for international collaboration to address the climate crisis.

Indonesian Minister of Forestry Expert Staff for Climate Change, Haruni Krisnawati, said the forum provided astrategic space for countries to strengthen partnerships in sustainable forest management. She emphasized the urgency of accelerating policy implementation in the forestry sector ahead of the 2030 global climate target.

“With only a few years left until the 2030 target, countries need to accelerate the implementation of concrete actions in the forestry sector. Indonesia has significant experience in tropical forest management, including through the Forest and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030 approach, which can contribute to global cooperation,” Haruni said in Nairobi on Monday, March 9, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Head of the Public Relations and Foreign Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry, Ristianto Pribadi, added that Indonesia’s participation was also an opportunity to share best practices in forest governance.

“Indonesia continues to strengthen sustainable forest management through various strategic policies, including the timber legality verification system (SVLK), social forestry programs, land rehabilitation, and efforts to prevent forest fires. This experience is important to share in global forums such as the FCLP,” he said.

During the discussions, Indonesia also raised the potential for developing sustainable wood-based green construction. The government emphasized the importance of harmonizing standards, building capacity, and transferring technology across countries to accelerate the development of a low-carbon forestry-based economy.

Ristianto noted that Indonesia’s participation in the FCLP forum strengthens forestry diplomacy at the global level. He said the step opens opportunities for international cooperation and access to funding to support the FOLU Net Sink 2030 agenda and sustainable forest management. ***
