RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Forestry has temporarily closed all hiking trails in the Mount Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP) following a wildfire that broke out in the Surya Kencana West Square area in Cianjur, West Java.

Head of the TNGGP Center, Sadtata Noor Adirahmanta, said the fire was successfully contained thanks to the swift response of TNGGP officers, the Forest Police Partner Community (MMP), and volunteers, preventing the flames from spreading into the forest area.

“The fire has been extinguished, but officers will continue monitoring and conducting ground checks for the next three days to anticipate any remaining hotspots,” Sadtata said in a statement on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Field assessments estimate the affected area at around one hectare, burning dry grassland and a small patch of woody vegetation near the edelweiss savanna leading toward the forest.

As a precautionary measure to ensure visitor safety, the TNGGP Center has temporarily closed all hiking routes from August 7 to 11, 2026, as stipulated in Circular Letter Number SE.18/2026.

Hikers who made reservations during the closure period may request a refund. A refund link will be sent via the official TNGGP WhatsApp account to the registered group leader.

The Ministry of Forestry urges the public and hikers to comply with all regulations and remain vigilant to prevent fires and protect the TNGGP ecosystem. (Misni Parjiati)
