RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia integrated 11 maritime vocational higher education institutions through the Ocean Institute of Indonesia on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. The inauguration took place in Jakarta during the launch of the Ocean Institute of Indonesia.
The Ocean Institute of Indonesia represents a strengthened institutional identity under Indonesia's Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). The initiative integrates 11 vocational higher education institutions into one collaborative education framework while preserving each campus's specialization.
Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisherie, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, said every campus will maintain its own specialization under the Ocean Institute of Indonesia. He said the integration will strengthen vocational education through coordinated academic development.
"Each campus will have its own specialization, meaning they will no longer provide identical educational programs. Instead, every institution will develop its own area of expertise. This is what we have brought together under the Ocean Institute of Indonesia," he said.
Trenggono thanked university leaders for supporting the establishment of the Ocean Institute of Indonesia. He said the institute would contribute to developing Indonesia's marine and fisheries sector.
"I would like to thank all the university rectors present here for their support. Together, we will advance and develop Indonesia's marine and fisheries sector. This will ensure that the marine and fisheries economy makes a significant contribution to the prosperity of our nation and state," he added.
The Ocean Institute of Indonesia integrates the Fisheries Business Expert Polytechnic (AUP), Marine and Fisheries Polytechnics in Dumai, Karawang, Pangandaran, Sidoarjo, Jembrana, Kupang, Bone, Bitung, and Sorong, as well as the Wakatobi Community Academy of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. The inauguration also marked cooperation agreements with 17 strategic partners from universities, defense institutions, businesses, and industries to strengthen education, applied research, technology development, and maritime human resource capacity.
