RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Namibia has expressed interest in forging cooperation with Indonesia in the field of education and vocational training. The proposal was conveyed by CEO of the Namibia Training Authority (NTA), Erick Fundula Nenghwanya, during a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador Mirza Nurhidayat at the Indonesian Embassy in Windhoek on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Ambassador Mirza affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to support Namibia’s human resource development, particularly through instructor capacity building and training programs in oil and gas, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality.

“This exploratory step is crucial as Namibia is currently prioritizing rapid industrialization, following the discovery of large offshore oil and gas reserves,” Ambassador Mirza said in a statement published by the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday, July 20, 2026.

He emphasized that a reliable local workforce in technical fields is urgently needed for Namibia to manage its new energy potential independently and sustainably.

Echoing this, NTA CEO Erick Nenghwanya highlighted the pressing demand for skilled labor as strategic sectors expand. He underscored Namibia’s strong interest in partnering with Indonesian institutions, including PT Pertamina and national vocational training centers.

In response, Ambassador Mirza pledged to facilitate technical meetings online and prepare for an NTA delegation visit to Indonesia before the end of 2026, aimed at strengthening cooperation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The meeting at the Indonesian Embassy in Windhoek also marked an important step in reaffirming Indonesia-Namibia’s commitment to vocational training as a strategic pathway to enhance workforce quality in priority sectors.

Through a comprehensive partnership aligned with the spirit of South-South Cooperation, both countries hope to open more structured, inclusive, and sustainable collaboration between their educational and training institutions in the future. (Diva Rifdah)
