RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - Jenang Yu Jumilah at Ngasem Market in Yogyakarta has become one of the traditional foods drawing many visitors after being widely recommended on TikTok. Beyond its social media popularity, the stall is also seen as helping preserve traditional snacks by offering nine jenang varieties in one place.

Jenang is a traditional Indonesian pudding-like sweet treat, native to Javanese culture. It is soft, thick, and gelatinous, typically eaten as a comforting snack or dessert.

One visitor, Sausan, said she came after seeing the recommendation on TikTok. She added that Jenang Yu Jumilah stands out not only for its taste, but also for its wide selection of jenang, which is difficult to find elsewhere.

“What makes it different is that not all jenang sellers offer nine flavors at the same time. If not for Ngasem Market, it would be very hard to find one place that sells various kinds of traditional food,” said Sausan on Tuesday, 7 July 2026.

Another visitor, Sharlyn, said traditional foods such as jenang should not only attract attention when they go viral. She hopes the public will help preserve local snacks so they remain alive.

“It should absolutely be preserved. Don’t just follow it because of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), but try it because it is local and still very traditional,” she said.

The manager of Jenang Yu Jumilah, Dita, explained that the stall offers nine jenang variants. The options include original sumsum, pandan sumsum, mutiara, candil ketan, candil cassava, pati telo, black sticky rice, lobe-lobe filled with sweet potato and jackfruit, and ngangrang made from white glutinous rice cooked with ginger, cloves, and cinnamon.

All variants are sold at IDR 11,000 (USD 0.67) for dine-in orders and IDR 15,000 (USD 0.91) for takeaway.

According to Dita, the most popular menu item is lobe-lobe because it is only available at Jenang Yu Jumilah. “It’s already legendary. There’s only us that sell it,” she said.

Jenang Yu Jumilah’s presence at Ngasem Market shows that Yogyakarta’s traditional cuisine still holds a place in the hearts of both locals and tourists. With nine jenang choices in one stall, the spot offers distinctive flavors while also supporting the preservation of traditional snacks that are becoming increasingly rare. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
