RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: The Ministry of Industry continues to strengthen Indonesia’s toy industry by improving product quality and standardization, building industrial capacity, and expanding market access. These efforts are part of the ministry’s commitment to strengthening the national toy industry ecosystem, so it becomes more competitive and better positioned to tap domestic and global market opportunities.
One of these efforts is the Indonesia Toy Forum 2026, a collaboration between the Ministry of Industry, through its Directorate General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA), and the Asia Toy and Play Association (ATPA). The forum brings together government representatives, industry players, academia, businesses, and other stakeholders to discuss opportunities and challenges while shaping the future development of Indonesia’s toy industry.
Director General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) Reni Yanita reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting and strengthening the domestic manufacturing ecosystem, including the toy industry.
“The main challenge facing the national industry today is not simply its ability to manufacture products, but how we ensure that domestically made products are absorbed and used by consumers while also enabling them to seize opportunities in global supply chains,” the IKMA director general said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, October 5, 2026.
According to Reni, the toy industry has significant potential as a labor-intensive sector and a producer of value-added products.
“We need to strengthen the domestic market through the implementation of standards, greater use of domestic products, and improved competitiveness, so that Indonesian-made toys become more attractive in the national market and can expand their presence in international markets,” she said.
Reni emphasized that the development of the national toy industry should be pursued as a joint effort involving multiple sectors, with each stakeholder contributing according to its respective role. Such collaboration is essential to creating an industrial ecosystem that supports innovation, strengthens competitiveness, and expands the reach of locally made toys.
“The government’s role is to create a supportive business climate and policy framework, while industry players serve as the main drivers in producing innovative and competitive products. The education sector can provide perspectives on learning needs, while the retail and digital commerce sectors can expand consumer access to these products,” she said.
Reni further noted that the toy industry plays an important role in supporting economic activity through business development and job creation. The industry is also spread across various regions and involves businesses of diverse characteristics and sizes.
“The toy industry has a production foundation that can continue to be strengthened to increase its contribution to the national economy. Nationally, the toy industry has become part of an industrial ecosystem involving businesses ranging from small to large-scale enterprises,” she said.
