RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Industry is accelerating halal certification for industrial players ahead of the implementation of mandatory halal certification in October 2026. The policy is expected to strengthen competitiveness and expand market access for domestic products.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said halal certification must become an integral part of industrial production systems.
“By facilitating halal certification, we are encouraging industries not only to obtain certification but also to consistently implement the principles of halal product assurance,” Minister Agus said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.
According to Minister Agus, halal assurance can strengthen consumer confidence while creating added value for industrial products.
“With halal assurance, consumer confidence grows stronger, while opportunities for our industrial products to reach broader markets become increasingly available,” he said.
The mandatory requirement covers food and beverages, raw materials, additives, and related services distributed and traded in Indonesia. The ministry is prioritizing micro and small enterprises (MSEs) as well as small and medium industries (SMIs).
By 2025, the Jakarta Center for Industrial Standardization and Services (BSPJI Jakarta) had facilitated halal certification for 31 MSEs in the Greater Jakarta area. The government is also providing halal certification facilitation in 2026 free of charge through a dedicated assistance scheme.
Head of the Agency for Standardization and Industrial Services Policy (BSKJI), Emmy Suryandari, said certification must be accompanied by stronger quality assurance systems.
“Halal certification facilitation is not merely about issuing certificates, but also about ensuring that industries consistently apply the principles of halal product assurance,” Emmy said.
Meanwhile, BSPJI Jakarta head Fathullah described the facilitation program as an opportunity to strengthen the competitiveness of small businesses and industries.
BSPJI Jakarta serves as a Primary Halal Inspection Agency (LPH) for food and beverage products, cosmetics, chemical products, and consumer goods. ***
