MUI Urges Businesses to Prepare for Mandatory Halal Certification by October 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) urges business players of all scales to immediately prepare for the full implementation of mandatory halal certification started on October 18, 2026. This is considered crucial to ensure legal certainty across the business ecosystem and to provide optimal consumer protection for the public.

MUI Deputy Chairman KH M. Cholil Nafis affirmed that the October 18, 2026 deadline is not the time for speculation or delaying halal certification obligations; rather, it is time to move collectively toward greater compliance.

"October 18, 2026, is no longer a time for delay, but a moment to ensure compliance. The government, business players, including micro and small enterprises (MSEs), importers, halal inspection agencies, and the entire halal ecosystem, must move in unison," Kiai Cholil conveyed on the sidelines of the "Consignment Meeting Towards Mandatory Halal October" at the MUI headquarters in Central Jakarta on Monday, September 21, 2026.

In addition, he also reminded everyone that business readiness is vital. It is because the scope of this second phase of mandatory halal certification is far broader than the previous one.

Kiai Cholil noted that halal certification is now required not only for the food and beverage sector but extends to various other industrial sectors.

"The halal certification mandate applies not only to food and beverages, but also encompasses cosmetics, natural medicines, quasi-medicines, health supplements, raw materials and food additives, chemical products, and even certain consumer goods," he mentioned as quoted by mui.or.id.

The CEO of Amanah Zakat added that this phased implementation applies equally to Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) and to foreign or imported products circulating in Indonesia.

MUI, along with various ministries and agencies, has united its commitment to overseeing this implementation. Kiai Cholil affirmed that MUI is ready to provide full support regarding community-related aspects and the determination of product halal status.
