Indonesian Fishery Exports to Japan Maintain Positive Trend

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Exports of Indonesian fishery products to Japan continue to show an upward trend. According to data from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Indonesia’s fishery exports in 2025 reached USD 589.86 million.

This figure represents a 6.5 percent increase compared to the previous year. During January–June 2026, export value reached USD 279 million, with shrimp and frozen fish as the main commodities.

Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir emphasized that Indonesia, as a maritime nation, possesses abundant marine resources. “Indonesian fishery products are among the leading export commodities in the Japanese market,” she said on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Indonesia also continues to strengthen the promotion of its fishery and marine products in Japan. One such effort was participating in the 28th Japan International Seafood & Technology Expo (JISTE) 2026 in Tokyo, held August 19–21.

The Indonesian pavilion featured 14 national fisheries businesses and their flagship products, including fresh and frozen tuna fillets, canned tuna, shrimp, octopus, mackerel, and crab.

Through this event, Indonesian businesses can expand their networks and seize cooperation opportunities with companies in the international seafood industry. This aligns with Japan’s position as one of the primary markets for Indonesian fishery products.

Ambassador Kartini said the expo serves as a strategic opportunity to optimize the implementation of the Indonesia–Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA). “This agreement provides a zero‑percent tariff for certain fishery products,” she said.

She expects this mechanism to continue improving the competitiveness of Indonesian products. “Especially in Japan, which has maintained diplomatic relations with our country for nearly 70 years,” she added. (Gusti Panji)
