RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia strengthens the competitiveness of its capital market at the regional and global levels thru the launch of a gold-based Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) in Jakarta on Monday, August 10, 2026. This launch is part of the government's agenda to deepen the financial market and enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia's capital market amid the dynamics of the global economy.

Vice Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, Juda Agung, said that the development of gold ETFs in the global market indicates the increasing importance of this instrument in the international investment ecosystem. In the global capital market, interest in gold-based ETFs has also increased. In 2025, the assets under management of global gold ETFs reached 559 billion USD with gold holdings amounting to 4,025 tons.

"This reflects the increasing importance of this instrument within the global investment ecosystem. So, what we are doing today is not just adding one product, we are expanding investment options while deepening our financial market to compete with regional and global capital markets," he said.

Agung affirmed that the development of Indonesia's capital market in the future should not only aim to increase the market scale, but also strengthen the depth and investor confidence. He stated that innovation in the capital market must go hand in hand with integrity, governance, accountability, transparency, investor protection, and strong supervision.

In line with this, the President Director of PT Kustodian Sentral Efek Indonesia or KSEI, Samsul Hidayat, stated that the launch of the gold ETF is part of strengthening the national bullion ecosystem thru the integration of the capital market and gold business activities. According to him, this integration also supports efforts to deepen the national financial market.

"Gold ETFs are expected to become a new alternative investment instrument for Indonesian capital market investors. This product is also part of strengthening the national bullion ecosystem thru the integration of the capital market with bullion, thereby supporting the deepening of the national financial market,” the President Director conveyed.

Samsul explained that the development of gold ETFs is the result of collaboration between the OJK, Self-Regulatory Organizations (SRO), investment managers, custodial banks, participating dealers, bullion banks, and other capital market industry players. The integration includes the provision of physical gold as the underlying asset to the trading of gold ETF participation units on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.
