RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Digital payments via the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) continue to grow rapidly in Indonesia. As of the first half of 2026, transactions processed through this system have already exceeded half of Bank Indonesia’s (BI) annual target.

BI reported that the volume of QRIS transactions reached 12.55 billion transactions from January through June 2026. This figure represents a 100.12 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

“QRIS serves as both a gateway to the digital economy and a game-changer for the national digital economy and finance,” said BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta during the Prima Executive Gathering 2026 in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Filianingsih noted that this achievement demonstrates that digital payments have become an integral part of Indonesian’s daily lives. As of the end of June, the value of QRIS transactions stood at IDR 600.69 trillion (USD 33.52 billion), representing an 89.52 percent year-on-year (yoy) increase.

According to Filianingsih, this increase reflects the public’s growing confidence in cashless transactions via smartphone QR code scanning. BI views QRIS as playing a crucial role in accelerating the transformation of the digital economy and financial sector at the national level.

Currently, the QRIS service is used by approximately 66 million users and accepted by 44.86 million merchants throughout Indonesia. BI aims to increase these figures to 70 million users and 47 million merchants by the end of 2026.

In terms of transaction volume, BI is targeting 17 billion transactions this year. With 12.55 billion transactions already processed in the first half of the year, nearly three-quarters of the annual target has been achieved.

Most QRIS merchants are micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) that can now more easily accept cashless payments. With just one QR code, merchants can accept payments from various banks and digital wallets, thereby promoting financial inclusion.

Filianingsih added that interoperability is QRIS’s key strength, as a single code can be used across various payment apps. This ecosystem is now supported by 96 banks, 60 non-bank institutions, and four switching providers, all of which strengthen the national payment system. ***
