  • The reference price for crude palm oil (CPO) dropped slightly to $996.52 per ton due to lower global demand, which also lowered its export fees.
  • Prices for cocoa beans jumped over 36% to $5,424.96 per ton because bad weather in West Africa disrupted the world's cocoa supply.

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia has officially set the reference prices for major commodities for August 2026 in response to global market dynamics. This policy has a direct impact on the adjustment of export duties for key export products such as CPO and cocoa beans.

The reference price for CPO has been set at USD 996.52 per metric ton. This 0.44 percent decrease from the previous month has triggered adjustments to export duties and levies on crude palm oil.

“The CPO reference price for August 2026 has decreased compared to the previous period. In accordance with applicable regulations, this decline was followed by the setting of an export duty (BK) of USD 148/MT and an export levy (PE) of 12.5 percent of the CPO reference price, or the equivalent of USD 124.56/MT,” Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Tommy Andana, explained as quoted in a press release on Friday, July 31, 2026.

The government explained that the decline in CPO prices was influenced by overall international market conditions. Declining demand from major importing countries and the stabilization of crude oil prices were the main contributing factors.

In contrast to palm oil, the reference price for cocoa beans actually experienced a sharp surge of 36.66 percent to USD 5,424.96 per metric ton. This increase was triggered by disruptions to global supply caused by severe weather and the El Niño phenomenon in West Africa.

These global production disruptions have automatically driven up the Export Reference Price for Indonesian cocoa beans. This price adjustment is expected to maintain the stability and competitiveness of plantation commodities in foreign markets.

The setting of all reference prices for agricultural and forestry commodities was approved through the Minister of Trade Decree No. 1667 of 2026. This regulation is effective from August 1 through August 31, 2026.
