BI Governor Perry Warjiyo Resigns, Destry Damayanti Named Acting Governor

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo has resigned from his post. Following his decision, the Board of Governors (RDG) appointed Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti as Acting Governor to ensure the continuity of the central bank’s operations.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto received Perry’s resignation letter on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

“Based on BI’s mechanisms and regulations, the President accepted Perry Warjiyo’s resignation, along with the highest appreciation for his dedication over the past seven years,” Minister Prasetyo said during a joint press conference with BI’s Board of Governors at the central bank headquarters in Jakarta on Monday, July 27, as quoted by Antara.

Meanwhile, BI Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti was appointed Acting Governor during the RDG meeting on Sunday, July 26. The appointment was made in accordance with Law No. 23/1999 on Bank Indonesia, as last amended by Law No. 4/2026 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (UU P2SK).

“BI will continue to carry out its duties and authority to stabilize the rupiah exchange rate, safeguard the payment system, and maintain financial system stability to support sustainable economic growth. This will create an economic environment conducive to real sector growth and job creation, as mandated by the Law on BI,” Destry said.

She added that BI would continue to prioritize sound and professional institutional governance in implementing its mandate.

BI also pledged to strengthen coordination with the government to ensure the effectiveness of monetary policy, payment systems, and financial system stability during the leadership transition.
