RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian rupiah weakened against the U.S. dollar at the opening of trading on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 10 a.m. Jakarta time. Bloomberg data showed the rupiah fell 0.15 percent to IDR 17,990 per USD, while the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) stood at 101.23.
Analysts said the resignation of Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo had a negative impact on the rupiah’s exchange rate. “It’s clearly negative. The rupiah should have strengthened due to the DXY’s weakening,” said Lukman Leong, a currency market analyst at Doo Financial Futures, in Jakarta on Monday.
Lukman noted that the DXY was weakening amid easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. “However, the BI Governor’s resignation is weighing on market sentiment and weakening the rupiah,” he said.
A currency market analyst at Mirae Asset Sekuritas, Jessica Tasijawa, added that Perry’s resignation has become a focus for investors. “Market participants are awaiting the government’s decision regarding a permanent replacement,” she said.

Jessica emphasized that investors will closely monitor Perry’s successor and the implications for the continuity of BI’s monetary policy, as well as the central bank’s credibility and future policy direction.
Meanwhile, a currency market analyst at Traze Andalan Futures, Ibrahim Assuaibi, described Perry Warjiyo’s resignation as a “gentleman’s move.” “This is exceptional because he provides an opportunity for his deputies to lead BI,” he said.
Ibrahim added that whoever leads BI will face significant challenges in strengthening the rupiah. “Geopolitical issues, combined with a chaotic domestic economy, are causing the rupiah to weaken again,” he said. (Gusti Panji)
