RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is accelerating tourism equalization in Bali by updating travel itineraries, aiming to reduce congestion in the island’s southern region while promoting new destinations.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said the ministry is restructuring the “4B” travel scheme, which covers Banyuwangi in East Java, as well as North, West, and East Bali. The program expands on the earlier “3B” concept by incorporating Karangasem into a new tourism route.

According to Minister Widiyanti, about 70 percent of tourists remain concentrated in the Sarbagita region -- Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan. “We need to spread out tourist attractions so that visitors will also spread out,” she said during the Bali Regional Development Coordination Meeting in Denpasar on Monday, July 20, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Under the new plan, tourists will be directed from their point of arrival to destinations including Banyuwangi, Gilimanuk, Kerthi Bali Semesta Park in Jembrana, Pemuteran, Lovina, Les, and the diving areas of Tulamben and Amed in East Bali.

Minister Widiyanti also highlighted the potential of the Batur UNESCO Global Geopark and the Kintamani area to strengthen Bali’s tourism appeal. She stressed that the program’s success requires infrastructure support, technology-based traffic management, accelerated road widening, and public transportation covering the entire 4B route.

“We also want to highlight the potential of tourism villages as sustainable attractions. Bali has 173 tourism villages, three of which have already received the UN Best Tourism Village award,” Minister Widiyanti said. ***
