Selangor-West Java Forum Strengthens ASEAN Economic Ties

RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - The Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) ASEAN 2026 has become an important forum for strengthening economic cooperation between Indonesia's West Java province and Malaysia's Selangor state.

Hosted in Bandung, West Java, the event brought together government officials, business leaders, and investors to explore investment opportunities and long-term bilateral partnerships.

Selangor Chief Minister Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari underscored that the summit goes beyond business deals, aiming to build sustainable cooperation.

“Business matching and coordination through institutions such as Invest Selangor will provide significant benefits, but this forum is also about broader collaboration,” he said on Thursday, July 9, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He highlighted areas such as semiconductors, food security, energy, and defense, while stressing that cooperation must also embrace culture, sovereignty, security, and prosperity.

West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan emphasized the province’s diverse opportunities for collaboration with Selangor, ranging from manufacturing and infrastructure to tourism and trade.

“We will expand cooperation between West Java and Selangor, and I hope West Java’s entrepreneurs can seize these opportunities,” Erwan said. He also pointed to West Java’s ambition to strengthen its Islamic economy, drawing lessons from Malaysia’s success as a global hub.

“We want to learn from Selangor on how to enhance Islamic economics. West Java, which has received the Adinata Syariah award, hopes to apply this more concretely in society,” he explained.

The summit is expected to establish a consistent forum for dialogue between Selangor and West Java, involving ministries, local administrations, and business stakeholders.

By fostering cooperation across multiple sectors, the partnership aims to drive sustainable growth and reinforce West Java's role as a hub for regional economic diplomacy. ***
