Indonesia Harnesses Industry 4.0 Technology for Disaster Management

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Industry is committed to accelerating the adoption of Industry 4.0 transformation to ensure that digital technology not only improves productivity and competitiveness in Indonesia’s manufacturing sector but also delivers broader benefits to society. One area of implementation is the development of technologies for disaster prevention, mitigation, response, and recovery.

Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, emphasized that digital transformation needs to focus on the practical benefits of technology.

“The most important component of digital transformation is awareness of the benefits of using digital tools. It is not simply about the ability to adopt technology, but must also go hand in hand with a shift toward a digital mindset,” the Industry Minister said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, September 21, 2026.

To accelerate digital transformation, the Ministry of Industry has positioned the Indonesia Digital Industry Center 4.0 (PIDI 4.0) as a technology and digital hub for the national manufacturing sector. PIDI 4.0 has established partnerships with at least 65 organizations, including industry players, technology providers, associations, and universities.

According to him, the Industry 4.0 transformation ecosystem has significant potential to generate innovations that address the needs of society. One such area is the use of technology to support disaster management in Indonesia.

This is particularly important given Indonesia’s exposure to various natural hazards due to its geographical and geological conditions. The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies can support innovations to strengthen disaster prevention, mitigation, response, and post-disaster recovery efforts.

Acting Head of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) Adie Rochmanto Pandiangan said PIDI 4.0 has established partnerships with several startups developing technological innovations to support disaster management.

“In the area of disaster management, PIDI 4.0 at the Ministry of Industry has partnered with two startups, TechnoGIS from Sleman, Yogyakarta, and BATARI Energy from Cimahi, West Java. Both companies have developed technological innovations that can support disaster prevention and management in Indonesia,” Adie said.

The collaboration between PIDI 4.0 and the two partners is part of efforts to strengthen the Industry 4.0 ecosystem, which provides a platform for stakeholders to share roles and collaborate in accelerating digital transformation.

As part of efforts to promote domestic technology capabilities and expand global business-to-business (B2B) cooperation opportunities, the Ministry of Industry featured TechnoGIS and BATARI Energy at the Asia Disaster Management and Civil Protection Expo & Conference (ADEXCO) 2026, organized by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) from September 9–12, 2026, at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.

The participation is expected to showcase the capabilities of Indonesian technology companies while opening up broader opportunities for collaboration in the development of disaster management technologies.
