RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia officially launched the 2026 Creative Economy Census on Monday, June 29, 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen data-based policymaking for the country's creative economy sector.

The launch was held during the 2026 Economic Census for the Creative Economy Subsector in Jakarta. The program boosts collaboration between the Indonesian Government, Statistics Indonesia (BPS), and creative economy associations.

Indonesia's Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, said the census would provide clearer data for future policy decisions. He added the results would also help identify opportunities and challenges across creative economy subsectors.

The following is his statement delivered during the launch event. He explained the importance of comprehensive data for stronger collaboration and policy formulation.

"We hope that with the successful implementation of the Economic Census, data on Indonesia's creative economy will become clearer, enabling collaboration between the government, associations, academics, and financing institutions. We will also be able to identify which subsectors are growing, which need to be rescued, and which remain stagnant, so we can see the situation together," he said.

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported the creative economy employed 27.4 million people in 2025. The sector also recorded 6.86 percent growth, exceeding Indonesia's overall economic growth of 5.11 percent.

Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, said the census would benefit both businesses and policymakers. She explained that the collected data would help businesses understand market conditions and make better decisions.

"Through this census, we can identify business positions and potential, understand market dynamics, and later use the census results to develop more adaptive business strategies based on statistical data," she said.

Data collection will continue until the end of August 2026 across Indonesia. The findings are expected to strengthen national policies and accelerate sustainable creative economy development.
