RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina underscored its commitment to safeguarding energy shipping operations in the face of global geopolitical uncertainty, as one of its very large crude carriers (VLCC), the Pertamina Pride, remains held in the Strait of Hormuz.
PT Pertamina (Persero) President Commissioner Mochamad Iriawan said the company continues to monitor developments involving the vessel, operated by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), in real time and with caution.
“For the VLCC Pertamina Pride in the Arabian Gulf, preparations are underway to move, while continuously evaluating risk developments and international recommendations,” Iriawan stated in Jakarta on Friday, June 26, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
According to PIS, the ship is still in the preparation stage, with assessments focused on security conditions, traffic density, and other risks, while taking into account international guidance.
Iriawan added that PIS’s crisis center team is monitoring the situation around the clock in close coordination with Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Iran. “We hope the Pertamina Pride can soon be released and sail to Indonesia,” he said.
On a more positive note, Iriawan confirmed that another Pertamina tanker, the Gamsunoro, successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, June 24. “Alhamdulillah, Gamsunoro has passed through the Strait of Hormuz. We have seen it exit and reach a safe point,” he remarked.
PIS reported that the Gamsunoro’s 16-hour journey began at 01:06 Dubai time (04:06 Jakarta time) and proceeded at a speed of 7.5 knots. The vessel reached the mouth of the strait around 13:00 local time and, four hours later, was declared to have safely crossed.
Iriawan said the successful passage of the Gamsunoro reflects PIS’s efforts to maintain shipping operations despite heightened geopolitical risks in one of the world’s most strategic energy distribution routes. ***
