RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s energy supply has been secured after the Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Pertamina Pride successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
The safe passage allowed all vessels owned by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), a subsidiary of the state‑owned oil and gas company Pertamina, that had previously been delayed to resume operations.
The Pertamina Pride departed from the Arabian Gulf on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 1 p.m. Dubai time (4 p.m. Jakarta time).
The vessel, with a capacity of 2 million barrels of crude oil, crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, July 8, at 12:15 a.m. Jakarta time and continued its voyage to Cilacap, Central Java.
“The two PIS‑owned vessels, which had been detained since last March, can now resume their journeys and operate as usual,” said PIS Acting Corporate Secretary Vega Pita in Karawang, West Java, on Thursday, July 9, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Vega said the success reflects the effectiveness of PIS’s risk mitigation and operational monitoring measures amid regional security challenges. Departure time and shipping routes were determined after rigorous evaluations of technical, operational, and security aspects, including insurance coverage and crew readiness.

“We would like to express our appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, and all parties for their support,” Vega added.
During the voyage, PIS conducted 24‑hour monitoring through coordination between the crew and the onshore crisis center. The safety of the entire crew was ensured, enabling the vessel to continue delivering crude oil to support national energy security.
The Pertamina Pride is expected to arrive in Indonesia on July 23 after a 15‑day voyage. PIS emphasized that it will continue monitoring security developments in international shipping lanes to safeguard crews, secure cargo, and maintain uninterrupted energy distribution.
Previously, another PIS‑owned tanker, the VLCC Gamsunoro, successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz on June 24.
Pertamina President Commissioner Mochamad Iriawan said the successful passage of the Gamsunoro reflects PIS’s commitment to maintaining shipping operations despite heightened geopolitical risks in one of the world’s most strategic energy distribution routes. ***
