RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian state-owned electricity company PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) is seeking to expand its international footprint by targeting investment and business opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean, a region it sees as promising for clean energy development and sustainable growth.

PLN Indonesia Power President Director Bernadus Sudarmanta said the move reflects the company’s ambition to strengthen its position as a globally competitive energy company while supporting Indonesia’s broader economic diplomacy and energy transition agenda.

“PLN Indonesia Power continues to expand its role and contribution not only as the backbone of Indonesia’s electricity sector, but also as an energy company with global competitiveness,” Bernadus said in a statement released in Jakarta on Saturday, June 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He noted that Latin America and the Caribbean offer significant potential for renewable energy projects, adding that PLN IP is ready to contribute its experience, technology, and expertise to create value with international partners.

The company reinforced its commitment through participation in the 2nd Ambassadors’ Dialogue on Enhancing Trade and Investment Cooperation between Indonesia and Latin America and the Caribbean, organized by Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry in Jakarta on May 21.

At the forum, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Arief Havas Oegroseno highlighted the importance of strengthening investment cooperation in the energy sector between Indonesia and countries in the region.

“Indonesia is committed to expanding its energy-sector investment footprint into Latin America, following successful cooperation in the Middle East and Africa,” he said.

PLN Indonesia Power’s Director of Business Development and Commerce, Julita Indah, said the company currently manages national power generation assets with a total capacity of 22.1 gigawatts and has extensive experience in renewable energy development and sustainable energy solutions.

She said the forum provided an important opportunity for PLN IP to showcase its operational capabilities and strategic strengths while opening the door for new partnerships.

Through its subsidiary, PLN IP Renewables, the company is particularly interested in developing large-scale solar photovoltaic projects, citing the region’s strong solar irradiation potential. PLN IP is also exploring opportunities in mini-hydropower development using its turbine technology.

“We are open to collaboration on joint feasibility studies, operational partnerships, and strategic financing schemes,” Julita said.

She added that PLN Indonesia Power is ready to build strategic partnerships that support a greener, more reliable, and sustainable global energy industry. ***
