RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Strengthening the halal industry has become a new focus of cooperation between Indonesia and the United Kingdom, with both countries working to ensure supply chain continuity and enhance product competitiveness in the global market.
The Indonesian Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) and the British Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (BritCham) held discussions highlighting the implementation of the Halal Product Guarantee (JPH) in Indonesia, which is increasingly important for international trade.
BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan emphasized that halal assurance is about customer satisfaction and loyalty, not a trade barrier. “When halal assurance is well‑established, products gain added value and stronger competitiveness in the global market,” Haikal said in Jakarta on Friday, May 22, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He noted that dialogue with BritCham is a strategic step to strengthen communication between regulators and multinational businesses. The discussion aims to support the implementation of halal certification while ensuring smooth product distribution in international markets.
Haikal added that mandatory halal certification can boost global consumer confidence in products circulating in Indonesia. BPJPH is also opening channels for dialogue with businesses to ensure regulatory implementation proceeds gradually and adapts to industry needs.
“What matters most is how this halal ecosystem grows together. As regulations are implemented, businesses also gain certainty and support,” he said.
Meanwhile, BritCham Indonesia Executive Director Anggarini Sesotyoningtyas commended BPJPH’s open approach toward the international business community. She stressed that constructive communication is essential to ensure effective implementation of halal standards amid global supply chain dynamics.
“We are grateful for the openness of this dialogue. We brought various business representatives along with the British Embassy to discuss halal implementation in Indonesia. We also wanted to provide direct feedback from field experience,” Anggarini said. ***
