RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) has begun preparing regulations and oversight for the upcoming Strategic Mineral and Commodity Exchange (BMKS), starting with the establishment of a dedicated task force, the Task Force for Regulatory and Supervisory Preparation (Satgas BMKS).
OJK Board of Commissioners Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi said the task force was formed as part of the mandate of the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (P2SK).
“The law stipulates that activities in the mineral and strategic commodity exchange must be regulated and supervised beginning January 1, 2027. A special commissioner will also be appointed to oversee this sector,” Friderica explained during OJK’s July 2026 monthly board meeting on Tuesday, August 4.
She noted that the task force will prepare regulations, monitoring mechanisms, and supporting infrastructure ahead of BMKS operations. OJK believes integrated oversight is essential to strengthen governance, enhance transparency, and improve risk management in strategic commodity trading.
In addition to forming the task force, OJK is reinforcing cooperation with other institutions. A memorandum of understanding was recently signed with the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) to harmonize policies, exchange information, and build human resource capacity.
OJK considers cross-agency synergy is increasingly vital as commodity trading activities expand. Such coordination is expected to support more effective and integrated supervision. (Gusti Panji)
