RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs reaffirmed its strong commitment to supporting the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in protecting local MSMEs within the e-commerce ecosystem. The Ministry stated it is ready to collaborate to ensure MSMEs remain sustainable, competitive, and resilient in the digital space.

Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, emphasized that the government will not allow digital platforms to unfairly burden local MSMEs.

“We fully support the Ministry of MSMEs’ efforts to protect MSME players. Digital platforms must operate fairly and should not unilaterally burden small and medium businesses or the public. The government is present as a protector so local MSMEs can grow with confidence and develop sustainably,” Meutya said while receiving Minister of MSMEs Maman Abdurrahman and officials from the Ministry of MSMEs at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

She added that the ministry is prepared to support fair regulations and policies for MSMEs in accordance with existing legal frameworks and authorities.

At present, related regulations are still undergoing the formal legislative process. “Through this support, the government hopes to maintain the healthy growth of Indonesia’s digital ecosystem while strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesian MSMEs amid increasingly intense digital economic competition,” she stated.

The government emphasized that any adjustments to service fees by marketplace platforms must be carried out transparently and provide business certainty for MSME actors. The initial approach will be persuasive, but firm measures will be taken if violations against the spirit of MSME protection continue.

Minister of MSMEs, Maman Abdurrahman, welcomed the support from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs. He stressed that the government will continue to stand at the forefront in defending MSMEs as the backbone of the national economy.

“With this solid collaboration, we will ensure local MSMEs are no longer unfairly burdened. The digital ecosystem must protect and empower small businesses so Indonesia becomes stronger in the digital economy era,” Maman said.
