- Minister Teuku Riefky says the sector is transforming from service provider to creator of original IP.
RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Minister of Economy and Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, said Indonesia’s animation industry has recorded rapid growth, driven by rising production and the development of local intellectual property (IP).
“Indonesia’s animation industry grew from around IDR 240 billion (USD 13.55 million) in 2015 to IDR 800 billion in 2025. This shows our animation economy has more than tripled in the past decade,” Minister Riefky said at the launch of the Indonesia Animation Report 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 19.
He noted that the industry is transforming from serving as a production service provider for international IP to creating original IP by Indonesian talent. Revenue from the animation IP sector in 2025 rose 280 percent compared to ten years earlier.
According to Minister Riefky, members of the Indonesian Animation Industry Association (AINAKI) now hold at least 299 local character IPs, a number that continues to grow.
He cited the success of the animated film “Jumbo”, produced by Visinema, which drew more than 10 million viewers in theaters. “This success proves that the quality of our animators’ work is already highly competitive and demonstrates our readiness for economic self-reliance,” he said.
Minister Riefky added that the government is strengthening the animation ecosystem through policies ranging from research-based initiatives and IP protection to the development of IP-based financing schemes.
The Indonesia Animation Report 2026, launched in Jakarta, provides a comprehensive study mapping the current state and potential of the national animation industry, outlining its challenges and serving as a reference for future development. (Gusti Panji)
