RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Malaysia have taken a step to bolster regional financial resilience, as Bank Indonesia (BI) and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the respective central banks of both countries, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation across key areas of central banking.

The agreement covers collaboration in monetary policy, financial stability and macroprudential oversight, payment systems and digitalization, financial sector development, capacity-building initiatives, information exchange, and other mutually agreed fields.

BI Governor Perry Warjiyo described the MoU as more than a symbolic gesture, calling it a milestone in long-term institutional ties.

“This is proof of our sustained commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two central banks, especially amid today’s challenging geopolitical landscape,” he said in Jakarta on May 11, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

BNM Governor Dato’ Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the agreement reaffirms the enduring partnership between the two institutions.

“It is also our joint commitment to deepen cooperation in existing areas of central banking, while expanding into new fields of shared interest,” he noted.

The signing of the MoU paves the way for a more robust and synergistic partnership, with both central banks pledging to continue strengthening sustainable cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia. ***
