RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Member of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission IV Riyono has called for strengthening the capacity of fisheries-based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Ngawi Regency, East Java. It is to increase the added value and competitiveness of their products.
He said the fisheries sector in his electoral district, including aquaculture and reservoir-based fishing activities, still has significant potential for development. Therefore, he organized a training program for around 75 local MSME operators.
“This training for fisheries-based MSMEs provides added value by improving product quality and competitiveness, making their products more competitive in terms of price,” Riyono said in a statement to Parlementaria on Monday, August 10, 2026.

According to him, MSMEs that are able to survive and grow, especially those capable of expanding their businesses, need continuous guidance and assistance to increase their turnover and product value.
He said the sustainability of MSMEs would also contribute to strengthening the foundation of the national economy. Therefore, MSME operators need to be empowered and supported with access to raw materials, government-backed financing without collateral, markets, and concrete government support.
The training also introduced fisheries products that have successfully entered the ASEAN market as examples of export-oriented MSME development. One of the products was crispy shrimp, which has already been marketed in Malaysia.
The member of parliament also said high-quality raw materials and attractive packaging are important factors in increasing the value of fisheries products and helping them compete in wider markets.
The training was attended by around 75 MSME operators, most of whom, were women with business experience ranging from one year to more than five years. Their market reached varied from local to international markets.
For the training, Riyono also collaborated with Ngawi-based entrepreneur Fransiska as a trainer. She shared business development experience and strategies, including how to address business challenges, expand marketing through national events, and explore export opportunities to China.
