RRI.CO.ID, Houston – Pertamina is exploring ways to strengthen its cooperation with the U.S.-based oil and gas company EOG Resources as a follow-up to their existing collaboration. This initiative aims to boost national oil and gas production.

According to a press release on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Pertamina’s Deputy President Director, Oki Muraza, along with EOG International President and Vice President of International, Joe Korenek, and Director of International Business Development Jonathan Chung, held a series of discussions. The discussions focused on opportunities for further development of the existing partnership, particularly regarding the development of unconventional reservoirs in Indonesia.

During the discussion, both parties explored the potential for strengthening technological collaboration to enhance reservoir productivity, including through the application of multi-stage hydraulic fracturing technology, horizontal drilling, and fracture design optimization—areas where EOG Resources excels. Oki stated that strengthening this partnership is part of the company’s strategy to boost national oil and gas production.

“Pertamina is currently focused on developing existing fields while also promoting the development of unconventional reservoirs. To that end, we continue to improve our capabilities, knowledge, and technological expertise to support sustainable production optimization,” he said.

Furthermore, the meeting also covered the progress of policy support currently underway in Indonesia to accelerate the development of unconventional oil and gas. This policy is expected to create a more attractive investment ecosystem and provide certainty for the implementation of technology in the field.

As a company with extensive experience in the development of shale and tight reservoirs, EOG Resources is considered to possess the relevant capabilities to support efforts to increase Indonesia’s oil and gas production through a technology-based approach and operational efficiency. Exploring the strengthening of this cooperation is a strategic step to accelerate the implementation of cutting-edge technology in the development of unconventional reservoirs, which have long been known for their high level of complexity.

Through the continuation of this collaboration, Pertamina hopes to accelerate the realization of the potential of unconventional oil and gas resources as a new pillar in increasing national production, while simultaneously strengthening Indonesia’s energy security in the future. As a leading company in the energy transition sector, Pertamina is committed to supporting the 2060 Net Zero Emission target and continues to promote programs that directly contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
