RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s inflation rate in April 2026 slowed compared to the previous month, though price pressures remained evident in the transportation and daily consumption sectors.
The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded a monthly inflation rate of 0.13 percent month‑to‑month (mtm) in April 2026, down from 0.41 percent in March. The increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 110.95 to 111.09 served as the basis for this calculation.
BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Ateng Hartono, explained that the transportation group experienced inflation of 0.99 percent (mtm), contributing 0.12 percent to monthly inflation.
“The dominant commodities driving inflation in the transportation group were airfare, with an inflation contribution of 0.11 percent, and gasoline, with a contribution of 0.02 percent,” Ateng said during BPS’s official statistical press release in Jakarta on Monday, May 4, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Airfare surged by 15.25 percent (mtm), while gasoline prices rose by 0.34 percent (mtm), driven by higher jet fuel prices and several non‑subsidized petroleum products.
However, intercity transportation fares recorded a 10.01 percent (mtm) deflation, contributing minus 0.03 percent, slightly tempering overall inflationary pressure from the transportation sector.
In addition to transportation, the food and beverage/restaurant services group also contributed significantly, with inflation of 0.69 percent (mtm) and a 0.07 percent share. Commodities such as cooking oil, tomatoes, rice, and rice with side dishes also drove price increases.
Ateng highlighted downward price pressures in several expenditure groups. The personal care and other services group experienced deflation of 0.99 percent (mtm), while the food, beverages, and tobacco group saw deflation of 0.20 percent (mtm).
“Additionally, bird’s eye chili and chicken eggs contributed to deflation by 0.06 percent and 0.04 percent, respectively,” he added.
By commodity, chicken meat and gold jewelry were the primary contributors to monthly deflation. These declines helped offset overall inflationary pressures.
Although the CPI rose from 110.95 in March to 111.09 in April 2026, April’s inflation rate of 0.13 percent (mtm) remained lower than March’s 0.41 percent. ***
