RRI.CO.ID, Medan – Products made by entrepreneurs in Belawan are now gaining widespread recognition among guests from various countries. The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) continues to boost the promotion of local products through participation in the ASEAN Plus Cadet Sail (APCS) 2026 series of events at Belawan Port, Medan, North Sumatra.

In a written press release on its website on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Deputy for Small Business at the Ministry of MSMEs, Temmy Satya Permana, affirmed that international events like APCS serve as an effective means to expand market access.

“International-scale events such as the ASEAN Plus Cadet Sail represent a strategic opportunity to introduce products from Indonesian MSME entrepreneurs to the global market. We encourage MSME entrepreneurs to be able to compete and showcase themselves on the international stage,” Temmy said .

For this event, the Ministry of MSMEs facilitated a showcase area for 10 local MSME entrepreneurs in the Belawan Kodaeral I area. The products on display spanned the fashion and accessories sectors, as well as food and beverages rooted in local wisdom, reflecting both the region’s cultural richness and economic potential.

In addition to Belawan Port, promotional support was also expanded through the 15th Grand Hajj Simulation event at the Medan Hajj Dormitory on April 6–8, 2026. During the event, which was attended by more than 1,600 prospective Hajj pilgrims, the Ministry of MSMEs once again facilitated the participation of 10 MSME entrepreneurs in the food and beverage, modest fashion, and Hajj and Umrah supplies sectors.

Economically, MSMEs remain the main pillar of North Sumatra’s economy, contributing 46.51 percent to the Regional Gross Domestic Product in 2025. With approximately 2 million business units and digital adoption through QRIS reaching 1.4 million MSME entrepreneurs, the potential for development in this sector is considered immense.

Moreover, Temmy said, the Ministry of MSMEs will continue to promote the downstream processing of regional flagship commodities such as coffee, cocoa, and palm oil to increase the added value and competitiveness of local products in the global market.
