RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Vehicle sales in Indonesia showed a positive trend during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, reflecting strong consumer demand.
Trade Minister Budi Santoso conveyed this during a press conference on the impact of Eid al-Fitr on trade and tourism at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), wholesale car sales, or distribution from factories to dealers, reached 81,159 units in February 2026. This figure rose 22.1 percent compared to January 2026, when 66,472 units were sold.
“The increase in motor vehicle sales was primarily driven by demand for cars among Indonesians traveling home for Eid. This indicates that purchasing power remained strong throughout Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr,” Minister Budi said, as quoted by Antara.
Retail car sales also increased. In February 2026, sales from dealers to consumers reached 78,219 units, up 16.7 percent from 66,447 units in January.
Motorcycle sales recorded growth as well. Data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) showed that wholesale motorcycle sales reached 587,354 units in February 2026, up from 577,763 units in January.
Minister Budi expressed confidence that car and motorcycle sales would continue to rise in March 2026. “Sales are predicted to increase by 15 to 20 percent in March compared to February,” he said. ***
