RRI.CO.ID, Wuhan – A total of 17 Indonesian companies participated in the 14th China Food Trade Fair 2026, held from March 28–31 at the Wuhan International Expo Center in China. The participation was a collaboration between the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Small Medium Enterprises, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, and the Asian Trade, Tourism, and Economics Council (ATTEC).

Director General of National Export Development, Fajarini Puntodewi, stated that the event serves as a strategic effort to promote Indonesian fishery and premium fruit products to the Chinese market. She emphasized that the government continues to push superior food products to expand their global market access and penetration.

"This exhibition is an opportunity to showcase the richness of Indonesia's fisheries and tropical fruit sectors to the global market, especially China. Our superior products have great potential and we are confident they can compete globally," Puntodewi said in an official statement on Sunday.

Indonesia presented a diverse range of products at the 90-square-meter Indonesia Pavilion, featuring tropical fruits, spices, porang, coffee, seafood, carrageenan, herbal products like kratom and spirulina, edible bird's nests, processed foods, and banking services.

Trade Attaché in Beijing, Junita Syartika, noted that Wuhan serves as a crucial logistics hub in Central China. According to her, strengthening Indonesia's market presence in Wuhan will open wider opportunities to reach potential buyers across the country.

"The presence of Indonesian products in Wuhan is a momentum to demonstrate their quality directly to potential buyers in the Chinese region. Moreover, we continue to see growing enthusiasm from the Chinese market for tropical food products and industrial raw materials from Indonesia," Junita said.

The China Food Trade Fair is an annual exhibition for food products and supporting sectors. In 2025, the event featured 5,500 exhibitors and attracted approximately 400,000 visitors. Products typically showcased include seafood, poultry, agricultural goods, packaged foods, tropical fruits, coffee, tea, chocolate, and edible bird's nests.

Throughout 2025, Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports to China reached USD 67.04 billion. Steel, nickel, lignite, and coal remained the primary export commodities. Meanwhile, processed food exports to China totaled USD 386.48 million in 2025, with sweet biscuits, waffles, wafers, pasta, and fruit jellies being the most in-demand products.

To further support market penetration in Wuhan, Indonesia will host two business and investment forums. The "Indonesia-China Food & Ecosystem (ICFE) Forum 2026" will take place in Wuhan on March 30, followed by the "Indonesia-China SME, Trade and Investment Forum" in Beijing on April 1, 2026.

These forums aim to connect businesses and stakeholders from both nations. Key discussion topics will include trade opportunities, supply chain strengthening, and industrial ecosystem development for small and medium enterprises.

Puntodewi expressed optimism that the forums will enhance dialogue and collaboration between Indonesia and China. She highlighted that these initiatives are designed to foster stronger ties between business players from both countries.

"With China's enormous market potential, we are optimistic that cooperation between business players from both countries will continue to grow," Puntodewi said.

She concluded that the series of activities is expected not only to strengthen bilateral trade relations but also to open wider access for Indonesian products to thrive in the global market.
