RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The state-owned energy firm Pertamina is ensuring operational readiness and safeguarding the resilience of Indonesia’s energy supply amid escalating geopolitical conflict in the Middle East, following Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.

Vice President of Corporate Communications, Muhammad Baron, said the company continues to coordinate with relevant authorities to maintain smooth operations.

“Pertamina has prepared risk mitigation measures and strengthened communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy, the Indonesian Consulate General, and local authorities to ensure operational continuity and crew safety,” he stated on Monday, March 2, 2026, as quoted from the company’s official website.

Pertamina has identified three strategic business units directly linked to developments in the region: PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Non-Captive, which manages global energy transport; Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP), which operates upstream assets in Basra, Iraq; and Pertamina Patra Niaga, which procures crude oil and products from Middle Eastern sources.

To anticipate potential supply disruptions, Pertamina relies on a diversified portfolio of crude oil, fuel, and LPG sources, both from domestic production and international partners.

Baron said this strategy provides flexibility in supply management, while domestic refinery operations are optimized to balance production and distribution. “As the vanguard of national energy, Pertamina is tightening supervision and striving to ensure a secure supply of crude oil, fuel, and LPG to meet the needs of all Indonesians,” he added.

Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which about 20 percent of global oil supplies pass, was in response to military actions by the United States and Israel on Saturday, February 28, 2026. ***
