RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Halal certification in Indonesia has evolved from a regulatory requirement into a strategic tool that helps micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) expand their market reach, strengthen consumer trust, and enter export markets.

This was highlighted at the Ramadan Halal Product Bazaar organized by the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) in East Jakarta last Friday.

According to the BPJPH official website on Monday, March 2, 2026, the bazaar showcased how halal certification can serve as an entry point for MSME products into modern retail and international markets. Exhibitors presented a wide range of goods, including processed foods, beverages, pastries, and herbal products.

A producer of processed butterfly pea flower herbal products, Hayati, said she experienced the benefits of halal certification firsthand after obtaining it through BPJPH’s self-declaration program. “

After receiving the halal certificate, our products gained consumers’ trust and sold faster,” she said. Her products have not only performed well domestically but have also been exported to Turkey, with opportunities now being explored in the Middle East.

The owner of Serella Multi Pangan, Jelita Puspa Agustin, whose business produces modern snacks, brownies, dimsum, and dessert boxes, shared a similar experience.

She described halal certification as a crucial requirement for entering modern retail networks. “In modern retail, halal certification is a primary requirement and adds value by increasing partner trust. The process is relatively quick and easy, and it really helps business development,” she said.

Another participant, Runny, who produces sambal and homemade cakes, expressed appreciation for BPJPH’s bazaar initiative. She said the event provided greater exposure for her products and boosted sales.

BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan emphasized that halal certification is a long-term investment for businesses. “Halal certification is an investment in trust. When a product is halal-certified, consumers feel safe and confident. This opens opportunities for entry into modern retail and export markets,” he said, as quoted on the BPJPH official website.

He added that BPJPH continues to expand certification facilities, particularly for micro and small businesses, to help them grow and compete globally. “Micro and small businesses are the backbone of the national economy. We want them to be halal-certified so they can advance and compete in the global market and penetrate export markets,” he said.

The bazaar demonstrated that halal certification enables MSMEs to strengthen their competitiveness and pursue opportunities in both domestic and international markets. ***
