RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Industry Ministry said Indonesia’s jewelry industry continues to show strong global competitiveness, supported by rising exports and government-backed industry development programs.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the government will continue to push strategic policies and programs to strengthen the national jewelry industry in both production and exports.
“The Industry Ministry will continue to pursue strategic programs and policies that support national jewelry industry players through expanding market access, increasing capacity, and developing exports. This support is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia’s jewelry industry amid global market dynamics,” Agus said in a statement on Thursday, February 26, 2026, as quoted on the ministry's official website.
According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), cumulative exports of jewelry and precious goods reached USD 8.4 billion from January to November 2025. The figure is 65.29 percent higher than the total exports recorded throughout 2024, which stood at USD 5.5 billion.
The ministry said the jewelry industry is one of the strategic sectors contributing significantly to foreign exchange earnings. Indonesian jewelry products are known for their diverse designs, use of materials such as gold, silver, pearls, and gemstones, and the incorporation of local cultural elements that appeal to both domestic and international markets.
Through the Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA), the ministry implemented various programs throughout 2025 to support the industry.
These include facilitating participation in exhibitions, the e-Smart IKM program, export workshops, the Domestic Product Utilization Improvement Program (P3DN), and technical guidance for industry players.
The ministry will continue these efforts in 2026 through machinery and equipment restructuring programs for small and medium industries (IKM) and by accelerating Industry 4.0 adoption to improve productivity, efficiency, and competitiveness.
The ministry also facilitated jewelry SMEs' participation in the Jakarta International Jewellery Fair (JIJF) 2026, held on February 12–15 at the Jakarta Convention Center.
Director General of IKMA, Reni Yanita, expressed appreciation to the Indonesian Gold and Gemstone Entrepreneurs Association (APEPI) for consistently organizing national and international-scale exhibitions that provide promotional space for players in the jewelry industry, particularly SMEs.
“The Jakarta International Jewellery Fair, organized by APEPI, serves as a strategic platform for jewelry industry players, from producers and distributors to designers and SMEs, to expand market access, build partnerships, and follow industry trends and innovations,” Reni said at the exhibition’s opening on February 12.
At JIJF 2026, the ministry, in collaboration with APEPI, facilitated exhibition booths for 10 selected jewelry SMEs from East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, Jakarta, and Banten, featuring pearl and gemstone products.
Director of Miscellaneous Industries Reny Meilany said the 10 SMEs recorded total sales of IDR 463.829 million during the exhibition.
The government also committed to creating a conducive business climate through effective intellectual property protection regulations and expanding public education on the strategic value of intellectual property, Reni said. ***
