RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in Beijing has formally invited Chinese biopharmaceutical giant Sinovac to evolve its relationship with Jakarta from a vaccine provider to a primary investment partner. The proposal envisions a long-term collaboration centered on research, innovation, and the establishment of a robust biotechnology ecosystem within Indonesia.

The invitation was extended by Indonesia’s Deputy Ambassador to China, Irene, during Sinovac’s Lunar New Year celebration in Beijing. Notably, Irene was the only representative from the Asian region invited to deliver a speech at the event, which also included Sinovac CEO Yin Weidong and several senior global diplomats.

"Indonesia and Sinovac's cooperation is not only relevant in the context of pandemic management, but also has great potential to be developed towards sustainable vaccine research and innovation," Irene stated in a written address received on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The strategic pivot marks a new chapter in a relationship forged during the height of the COVID-19 crisis. While Sinovac was instrumental in providing vaccines early to Indonesia’s national program, the Deputy Ambassador emphasized that future ties must focus on knowledge transfer and capacity building.

This includes strengthening Indonesia’s national health research ecosystem and developing specialized human resources in biotechnology and vaccine production.

"Investment in research, innovation, and international collaboration is considered key in strengthening national and global health resilience," Irene added, underscoring the need for stronger research and industry capacity to face future health challenges. ***
