RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta, - Indonesia, is stepping up efforts to expand its influence in the aerospace industry by developing unmanned aircraft technology for global civilian needs.
State-owned aircraft maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) has launched a new strategy to target the international market with products ranging from agricultural drones to passenger drone concepts.
The initiative was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PTDI and PT Inovasi Solusi Transportasi Indonesia (FROGS Indonesia) at the Singapore Airshow 2026 on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. The agreement lays the foundation for cooperation in the development, production, and marketing of unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
PTDI’s Director of Commerce, Technology and Development, Moh Arif Faisal, described the partnership as a significant milestone for the national aerospace industry. “This cooperation is a strategic step for PTDI to expand its UAS capabilities, especially in platform development, system integration, and manufacturing readiness for the global market,” Arif said in Bandung on Thursday, February 5, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He explained that PTDI is leveraging its international network, including support from Indonesian embassies abroad, to accelerate market penetration. He emphasized that innovations developed by Indonesians must be represented as relevant solutions globally.
FROGS Indonesia is a start-up specializing in drone manufacturing for agricultural spraying, aerial mapping, cargo surveillance, and passenger drone development. Its expertise complements PTDI’s engineering and large-scale production capabilities.
Under the partnership, PTDI will strengthen systems, optimize manufacturing facilities, and promote international marketing. The cooperation focuses on non-combat operational needs with high mission flexibility.
“PTDI encourages the development of drones that are reliable in terms of system performance and mission flexibility, so that they are ready for surveillance, mapping, and non-combat operational support,” Arif said.
He added that this civilian approach will complement PTDI’s portfolio following the successful development of the UAS Wulung and the Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle – Medium Altitude Long Endurance (UCAV-MALE) Elang Hitam.
The collaboration also includes joint research and development to tailor products for export markets. The main focus is on the agriculture and livestock sectors, which are experiencing increasing international demand. ***
